Tognoli Time

Hit it to the Back of the Green

Tom Tognoli Hit it to the Back of the Green

Hit it to the back of the green…don’t try to be perfect.

As I enter this next phase of my life, I have been blessed with the opportunity to play a lot of golf the last two months. It has been great spending time with family and friends, who have quite honestly taken a back seat in my life over the last 10 to 20 years. And if we are friends on my social channels, you can see that I have made a lot of new friends as well.

First, let me answer the question of what this next phase for me is. It’s pretty simple…I’m going to let it rip in life while spending time with Lynn, Tommy, and Nick. I am going to exercise a ton, eat right, and take care of myself, help my son Tommy in his real estate biz, do development, be authentic, spend time with my family and friends, help those I care about and those who have helped me in the past, volunteer, and of course, work on my handicap. That’s it…just help my people for now! We will see what comes of just helping people.

Okay…back to golf and hitting the ball to the back to the green. What the heck does that have to do with any of this?

Here is one thing I have learned the last two months on the golf course: Unless you are a professional or a low single-digit handicapper, you have no business hitting the ball at the flag. There is way too much trouble around the flag. Water, bunkers, and hazards.

Hit the ball to the back or fat of the green. Why? Because when you are an amateur, you tend to miss hit it way more often than stripe it. Then when I do stripe it, I am at the back or fat of the green. On the other-hand if I miss hit it, like we all do most of the time, where am I? Not in the drink or bunker. Unless I shanked it, I should be Pin High!

Don’t try so hard to be perfect in all the things you do in life. You are setting yourself up for failure...no one has a perfect F5 life – Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness and Finance. It’s impossible. We are all imperfect and broken trying to figure life out. Shoot long and to the back of the green for your goals and ambitions in life. If you stripe it, that’s awesome. Two putt and move on. If you miss hit it like we do most of the time, it’s okay…you will be PIN HIGH.

Be aggressive, but be patient, be smart, and play the odds. Use them to your advantage.

Now…what do you need to change or do today to shoot low?
